the 4th of July

Brigadier General Lewis Cass

At Cass Plumbing, we are extremely patriotic of our Country & deeply appreciative of our ancestors that have come before us and the customers that we serve. We at Cass Plumbing, are the proud descendants of Brigadier General Lewis Cass. He was the 22nd United States Secretary of State, the President Pro Tempore of the U.S. Senate, a United States Senator from Michigan, the United States Ambassador to France, the 14th United States Secretary of War and the 2nd Governor of the Michigan Territory.

Lewis Cass had a loyal dedication to serving similar to our current patriarch Dave Cass. It was the wisdom and foresight of Dave Cass that made him run toward the adventure, take a leap of faith and move his family to one of the fastest growing regions in the country, Tampa Bay, Florida.

On this 4th of July, we honor and thank our ancestors, like Lewis Cass, and our current patriarch Dave Cass for putting us in the position to be one of the fastest growing plumbing companies in the Tampa Bay region. Without the courage of Dave Cass we would not be here today. It is truly an honor to be here and serve the people in the Tampa Bay region.

5 Helpful Plumbing Tips for the Fourth of July

No Tampa resident likes to have plumbing problems on the 4th of July. In honor of our nation’s independence celebration, we would like to share with you 5 plumbing tips for the Fourth of July.  These 5 tips will ensure your 4th of July goes off without a hitch.

Tip #1: Check all your toilets

Before anyone arrives on the 4th of July make sure all of your toilets are running properly.  At Cass Plumbing, during the summer months, we see an increase in service calls dealing with clogged toilets.  Mainly, because kids are out of school and an increase in the number of house guest Tampa homeowners have over.

Look for these signs of toilet problems:

  • Strange noises when you flush the toilet
  • A toilet that constantly runs
  • Do you have to hold the handle down in order for the toilet to flush?
  • A small puddle of water around the base of the toilet

Should you encounter an unexpected clogged toilet, the first thing you should do is turn off the water supply to the toilet.  This will prevent it from overflowing and causing excessive water damage.

Tip #2: Everything doesn’t belong in the garbage disposal

A common kitchen problem we see during the summer months is garbage disposal repairs.  We all like to think that our garbage disposal can handle whatever you place down there.  Not that we wouldn’t like to come over and pay you a visit, but that’s the quickest way to get Cass Plumbing in your home during your Fourth of July BBQ.

Avoid putting the following items down your garbage disposal:

  • Fruit pits
  • Large bones
  • Shrimp shells
  • Banana peels
  • Corn husks
  • Grease
  • Potato peels

Tip #3: Check your water pressure

One thing about the residents in the Tampa Bay region, we enjoy our fireworks. Tampa Bay residents love to purchase bottle rockets, firecrackers, sparklers and other launchers on the 4th of July.

As a safety precaution, we encourage you to check the water pressure for all outside hoses just in case you have to put out a small flame.

Remember what Smokey the Bear use to say…”Only you can prevent wildfires“.

Tip #4: Clean your drains

The only thing worse than a clogged toilet is a clogged drain.  You don’t want your houseguest to experience the agony of a flooded bathroom due to a clogged drain.

We don’t recommend using toxic drain cleaners as they will eventually burn a hole in your pipes.  Use the ole baking soda and vinegar trick.  It’s an eco-friendly way to clean your drains.

Tip #5: Mark off appliances not to be used

Our job as professional plumbers in Tampa Bay is to be there when you need us. Plumbing emergencies happen every day in Tampa and we are only a phone call way.  If you experience a stopped up toilet or a clogged drain be sure to let your guest know that those plumbing appliances are out of order.

Place a sign on the door that reads “OUT OF ORDER” or “PLEASE DO NOT USE”.  This ensures that an unsuspecting house guest doesn’t try to flush a toilet that is already at the brink of overflowing.
